On December 2nd, 2017 the first training day for therapeutic patient education (TPE) was held at the Sainte-Justine Hospital in Montreal. The event focused on atopic dermatitis, and was chaired by Prof. Danielle Marcoux, dermatologist.

Over 40 doctors and nurses attended the plenary sessions which addressed the following topics :

  • Why is TPE essential in atopic dermatitis? 
  • What content should be included in a TPE session?
  • Which tools should be used?
  • How should PO-SCORAD be used?

 

Three practical workshops enabled all the participants to discuss :

  • Corticophobia,
  • How to recognize a patient in need of TPE,
  • How to use the tools.

This first TPE DAY in Montreal, aimed at health professionals, enabled everyone in attendance to better understand the impact of therapeutic patient education on patients with atopic dermatitis. The event also brought about new initiatives from hospital teams.
