The Eczema Foundation has supported the creation of a new Atopy School in Łodź (Poland) thanks to the help of the local Pierre Fabre team.
The first two workshops of Therapeutic Patient Education have already occurred, organized by Prof Aleksandra Lesiak - Vice Head of the Clinic of Dermatology, Paediatric Dermatology and Oncological dermatology of the Medical University in Łódź. The third meeting is planned on the 8th of December.
The first meeting was organized in October, it was a conference for 50 nurses with Educational Credits for them. There were 5 lectures, one conducted by Prof Lesiak, the other speakers were : a paediatrician, another dermatologist, a psychologists and nurses who spoke about food allergies.
The second meeting with parents took place on November 26th 2019. There were 20 patients (16 adults and 4 children), the meeting was organized in Łódź where prof. Lesiak is the Vice Head. The scenario was quite similar, with workshops to train the parents how to bathe children with atopic dermatitis and properly apply emollients.
The first two meetings were the opportunity to take part in a very interesting discussions that showed what a great job can be done in atopy schools in terms of education.
Patients/parents asked a lot of questions concerning the disease and the reliability of information they can find on the Internet. Doctors gave comprehensive advice on the skincare for patients/parents needed to self-manage the treatment of atopic dermatitis with emollients and topical medicines.
The collaboration with Prof Lesiak and the partnership of the Foundation will help this new school to get very quickly to the same level of expertise than other such projects founded for the purpose of for the management of AD already existing in the rest of Europe.
